KUALA LUMPUR: Two registered land owners and three companies challenging the acquisition of nine lots of prime land here for the MY Rapid Transit (MRT) project have been granted an interim stay on the land deal.
High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Justice Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim granted the interim stay until Sept 15, when he will decide on an application by the five for leave for a judicial review relating to the prime lots for the multi-billion-ringgit MRT project.
“The judge said he needs more time to make his decision,” lead counsel Su Tiang Joo, who acted for the five applicants, said yesterday.
He said the land inquiry scheduled on Sept 9, Sept 13 and Sept 14 had been stayed pending disposal of the application for leave.
LTS Resources Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd and Pedoman Cekap Sdn Bhd are the registered land owners while the others are T.S. Law Corporation Sdn Bhd and its subsidiaries LTS Properties (M) Sdn Bhd and LTS Capital Sdn Bhd.
In their Aug 5 application, they named the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister, the Government and the Federal Territory Land Administrator as respondents.
In the application, the five stated that parent company T.S. Law had the intention since the late 1990s to develop a commercial centre in Bukit Bintang through its subsidiaries.
They contended that T.S. Law, through the subsidiary companies, had built its land bank in the area by purchasing 30 lots of land for RM132mil between 1999 and 2011.
The five are seeking leave to apply for a judicial review that the acquisition proceedings for the MRT project is unconstitutional and unlawful.
